Patients who’ve lost a tooth to an injury, an untreatable infection, or a fracture are often candidates, provided there’s enough healthy bone at the site to support an implant. Bone loss isn’t always obvious just by looking at the gap. In some cases, the tooth may have been missing for a while, and the bone underneath may have already lost density without any outward signs.
That’s why Dr. Yagnik evaluates candidacy with CBCT imaging during your consultation rather than a visual exam alone. This imaging shows exactly how much bone is present at the specific site. If the bone at the site isn’t sufficient on its own, a bone graft can rebuild what’s needed before placing the implant. This means a thin ridge or an old extraction site doesn’t automatically rule out treatment.
A single-tooth implant isn’t a one-visit procedure, and understanding the timeline upfront helps set realistic expectations. The process generally starts with a consultation and CBCT imaging, followed by placement of the implant post itself. From there, the site needs time to heal and integrate with the surrounding bone before a permanent crown can be attached. This typically takes three to four months depending on the location in your mouth and your individual healing.
In some cases, if the tooth needs to be extracted first, that step and any necessary bone grafting will add to the front end of your timeline. Once the post has fully integrated, your restorative dentist takes over to design and place the final crown, completing the process. While the full timeline can span several months, the individual appointments are generally brief, and most patients return to normal activities within days after each step.
Because every implant case is planned around your specific situation, treatment costs vary from patient to patient. The final cost may be determined by several factors, including:
